Grades Faculty
Children don’t change parents every year. Why should they change teachers?
At Olympia Waldorf School, students have the same class teacher for up to eight years. This is an extraordinary commitment on the part of the teachers, and gives students a sense of security that makes learning here much easier.

Ms. Lauren Lusk, Grade 7
Lauren Lusk grew up under the wide open skies on the Kansas plains. She is a graduate of Sterling College, and is designated as a "highly qualified" certificated teacher for K-8 in Washington State. After college, Lauren spent time in British Columbia volunteering at A Rocha Canada in their environmental education internship program. In the summer of 2014 Lauren got her first taste of Waldorf Education while working as a camp counselor at Olympia Waldorf School. In the intervening years Lauren has taught grades second through fifth in both the public and private school classroom. These experiences as a classroom teacher have supplied a rich groundwork for her future work within a Waldorf classroom. In the summer of 2022 Lauren completed her first year of teacher training at Sound Circle Center for Arts and Anthroposophy. She will graduate in the summer of 2024. Lauren is passionate about bringing a rich, holistic, soulful, integrative experience to the students in her care. When not teaching, Lauren enjoys painting, kayaking, reading children's literature, spending time near the water, traveling, quilting, sewing, and spending time with her family.

Sr. Luis Allende, Spanish & Woodworking
Luis Allende was born in Santiago de Chile in a family with four children. When he became an adolescent he demonstrated interests in many fields; among them universal history and languages. He self taught Portuguese and experienced a strong fascination with the arts and the outdoors, especially mountain activities in the magnificent Andes. His extended family, mostly people associated with escenic art, painters, poets, writers and politicians, were the fertile ground from which grew a deep vocational interest in Philosophy and Pedagogy. At the college level, Allende studied languages like Euzkera (the language of the Basques), classical Greek, Latin and some modern Greek. He also studied Philosophy and Elementary Education. His vocational path led him to work for several years with students with learning disabilities and as an elementary teacher. He discovered Waldorf education in Chile 30 years ago, while working consistently as a tutor. In Chile, Luis experienced teaching outdoor education, manual techniques (handwork) and gardening.
When Luis moved to the USA in 2000, he became a Spanish teacher, teaching his mother tongue as a second language in different institutions and levels, mostly in the Olympia area. He was very fortunate to teach Spanish at the Olympia Waldorf School for seven consecutive years. Now, after enhancing his experience as a foreign language teacher in other Waldorf schools in the PNW, he is back at Olympia Waldorf School teaching Spanish and Woodworking. His other interests at the moment are woodworking, permaculture, sailing and cooking.
